Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Wapello had an population of 2,008 people. This is a decrease of 2.85% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 5.46% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wapello had a population of 2,067 people (or 18.16% of the total population of Louisa County). This makes Wapello the county's most populous community.

We originally found mention of Wapello in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Wapello was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Wapello post office opened in 1837.

We also found Wapello in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
