The Commemorative Quarter for Iowa

Welcome to Scott ...

So far, we found very little information about Scott. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Scott to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Scott - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Scott, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Scott , we believe that it would have been located within present day Mahaska County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Scott, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1849.

Time Zone: The area where Scott was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Scott ...

Adding Scott to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Scott was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Scott post office opened in 1849.

We also found Scott in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Scott, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Iowa's counties, including Mahaska, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
