From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for New Sharon was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the New Sharon post office opened in 1858.

We also found New Sharon in the book titled Iowa State Gazetteer (1865).
