From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Middle River was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>
From that list, the Middle River post office opened in 1855.
We also found Middle River in the book titled Iowa State Gazetteer (1865).
