Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Humboldt had an population of 4,553 people. This is a decrease of 2.92% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 2.27% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Humboldt had a population of 4,690 people (which is 47.78% of the total population of Humboldt County). This makes Humboldt the county's most populous community.

The population of Humboldt represents 0.15% of the total population of Iowa (which has 3,046,355 people), making it the state's 85th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 4,690 people, the population of Humboldt increased 5.35% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 4,452 people).
