Welcome to Cory ...

So far, we found very little information about Cory. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Cory to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Cory - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Cory, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Cory , we believe that it would have been located within present day Keokuk County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Cory, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1887.

Time Zone: The area where Cory was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Adding Cory to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Cory was in the book titled Iowa State Gazetteer (1865).

We also found Cory in the book titled .<3> X3X - From that list, the Cory post office opened in 1887.

For more details, see References and Mentions for Cory.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Cory, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Iowa's counties, including Keokuk, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
