We've added Bear Grove to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Bear Grove - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Bear Grove, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Bear Grove , we believe that it would have been located within present day Guthrie County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Bear Grove, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

Adding Bear Grove to Our Gazetteer ...

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Bear Grove, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Iowa's counties, including Guthrie, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
