The origin (or the toponymy) of Tennga: The name Tennga is a portmanteau<2> and it reflects the fact that the city is immediately south of the Tennessee and Georgia border.

We originally found mention of Tennga in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tennga was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<9>

From that list, the Tennga post office opened in 1906.

We also found Tennga on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Georgia (1911).
