Welcome to Taliaferro ...

So far, we found very little information about Taliaferro. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Taliaferro would have been located within present day Chattooga County<2>.


The location of Taliaferro has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Taliaferro, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1887.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Taliaferro has a population of 71 people<4> (see below for details).

While the community is gone, the present day location for Taliaferro is 610 feet [186 m] above sea level.<5>.

Time Zone: The area where Taliaferro was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: While Taliaferro is in the Eastern Time Zone, the area just to the west is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT).

Adding Taliaferro to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Taliaferro in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Taliaferro was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Taliaferro post office opened in 1887.

We also found Taliaferro on a map (with an unknown title) dated 1895.
