Welcome to Cumberland Island ...

So far, we found very little information about Cumberland Island. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Cumberland Island to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Cumberland Island - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Cumberland Island, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Cumberland Island , we believe that it would have been located within present day Camden County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Cumberland Island, you might get a feel for it by knowing that the earliest mention that we've found (so far) was on a map dated 1796.

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Cumberland Island was on a map (with an unknown title) dated 1796.

However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now.
