Welcome to Towns County ...Time Zone: Towns County lies in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time. The community of Hiawassee is the Seat for Towns County. Towns County was founded in 1856. Towns was created by taking area from Rabun and Union Counties. From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Towns had a population of 12,037 people. This is an increase of 14.26% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,535 people in 2010). At the time of the 2010 Census, Towns represented 0.11% of the total population of Georgia.
