Welcome to Alvin ...

So far, we found very little information about Alvin. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Alvin to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Alvin - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Alvin, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Alvin , we believe that it would have been located within present day Banks County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Alvin, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1915.

Time Zone: The area where Alvin was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Alvin once stood is in the (706) & (762)<3> area codes.

Communities Also Named Alvin ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Georgia communities named Alvin: This one is located in Banks County and the other is located in Madison County.

Beyond Georgia, there are 10 communities that are also named Alvin - they are located in British Columbia, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.

Adding Alvin to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Alvin was on a map (with an unknown title) dated 1915.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Alvin, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Georgia's counties, including Banks, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Area code (762) is an overlay for area code (706).
