Polk County was founded February 8, 1861. Polk was created by taking area from Brevard and Hillsborough Counties.
From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Polk had a population of 724,967 people. This is an increase of 20.41% since the last Census (which gave a population of 602,095 people in 2010).
At the time of the 2010 Census, Polk represented 3.2% of the total population of Florida.
