While we don't have a date for the founding of Uravan, you might consider that their post office opened in 1936. From Place Names in Colorado,<3> the origin of Uravan is described as "The name of Uravan is a contraction of Uranium and Vanadium." While the community is gone, the present day location for Uravan is 4,990 feet [1,521 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Uravan is about 1 mile [or ~1½ km] above sea level.
