While we don't have a date for the founding of Sawpit, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1896.

The town was incorporated in 1896.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Sawpit has a population of 39 people<2> (see below for details).

Sawpit is 7,550 feet [2,301 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the elevation of Sawpit is about 1½ mile [or ~2¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: Sawpit lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Sawpit had an population of 39 people. This is a decrease of 2.5% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 56% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sawpit had a population of 40 people. This makes Sawpit the county's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 40 people, the population of Sawpit increased 60% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 25 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sawpit was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Sawpit post office opened in 1896.
