While we don't have a date for the founding of Ridgway, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

From Place Names in Colorado,<2> the origin of Ridgway is described as "Named for Robert M. Ridgway, Superintendent of the Mountain Division of the Denver and Rio Grande R.R. in 1891."

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Ridgway has a population of 1,036 people<3> (see below for details).

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Ridgway had an population of 1,036 people. This is an increase of 12.12% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 45.3% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ridgway had a population of 924 people (which is 20.83% of the total population of Ouray County). This makes Ridgway the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Ridgway represents 0.02% of the population of Colorado (which has 5,029,196 people), making it the state's 149th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 924 people, the population of Ridgway increased 29.59% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 713 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Ridgway was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
