Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Montrose had an population of 19,606 people. This is an increase of 2.48% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 58.83% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Montrose had a population of 19,132 people (which is 46.35% of the total population of Montrose County). This makes Montrose the county's most populous community.

The population of Montrose represents 0.38% of the total population of Colorado (which has 5,029,196 people), making it the state's 27th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 19,132 people, the population of Montrose increased 54.99% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 12,344 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Montrose was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Montrose post office opened in 1882.
