Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Yreka had an population of 7,596 people. This is a decrease of 2.18% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 4.2% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Yreka had a population of 7,765 people (or 17.28% of the total population of Siskiyou County). This makes Yreka the county's most populous community.

The population of Yreka represents 0.02% of the total population of California (which has 37,253,956 people), making it the state's 388th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 7,765 people, the population of Yreka increased 6.52% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 7,290 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Yreka was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Yreka post office opened in 1853.
