So far, we found very little information about Winthrop. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Winthrop would have been located within present day Shasta County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Winthrop, you might consider that their post office opened in 1900. The community was inundated by Lake Shasta in 1944.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Winthrop is 1,090 feet [332 m] above sea level.<3>.

Time Zone: The area where Winthrop was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

We originally found mention of Winthrop in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Winthrop was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Winthrop post office opened in 1900. The Winthrop post office closed in 1932.
