Welcome to Plateau ...

So far, we found very little information about Plateau. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Plateau to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Plateau - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Plateau, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Plateau , we believe that it would have been located within present day Shasta County<2>.

Plateau was established in 1880s.

Time Zone: The area where Plateau was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Plateau was located: 530 & 837<3>

Communities Also Named Plateau ...

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Plateau.

Adding Plateau to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Plateau was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Plateau post office opened in 1889. The Plateau post office closed in 1909.

For more details, see References and Mentions for Plateau.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Plateau, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of California's counties, including Shasta, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 530 code has been Overlayed with the 837 area code. New phone numbers in the Plateau area will be assigned with one of these codes: 530 or 837. As a result, placing a call in the Plateau area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
