Welcome to Plateau ...

So far, we found very little information about Plateau. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Plateau to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Plateau - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Plateau, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Plateau , we believe that it would have been located within present day Shasta County<2>.

Plateau was established in 1880s.

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 11 communities that are also named Plateau - they are located in Alabama, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Nova Scotia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas (2) and Utah.

Adding Plateau to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Plateau was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Plateau post office opened in 1889. The Plateau post office closed in 1909.

However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now.
