Welcome to Lee (aka 'Lee's Camp') ...

So far, we found very little information about Lee. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Lee to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Lee - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Lee, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Lee <3>, we believe that it would have been located within present day Inyo County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Lee, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1907.

Time Zone: The area where Lee was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Lee was located: 760 & 442<4>

The community of Lee has also been called Lee's Camp.

Adding Lee to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Lee was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

X2X - From that list, the Lee post office opened in 1907.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Lee, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of California's counties, including Inyo, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Lee is also known as Lee's Camp. For more information, please visit our Genealogy Helper Page for Lee.
<4>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 760 code has been Overlayed with the 442 area code. New phone numbers in the Lee area will be assigned with one of these codes: 760 or 442. As a result, placing a call in the Lee area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
