The Commemorative Quarter for California

Welcome to Empire ...

So far, we found very little information about Empire. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Empire to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Empire - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Empire, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Empire , we believe that it would have been located within present day Sierra County<2>.

Time Zone: The area where Empire was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Empire once stood is in the (530) area code.

Communities Also Named Empire ...

While we believe that this Empire is located in Sierra County, we know of another 3 California communities named Empire. Those communities are located in the following counties: Contra Costa, Mendocino and Stanislaus County.

Beyond California, there are 34 communities that are also named Empire - they are located in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri (2), Montana, Nebraska, Nevada (3), North Carolina (2), Ohio, Oklahoma, Ontario, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and West Virginia (3).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Empire, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of California's counties, including Sierra, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
