While we don't have a date for the founding of Cuyamaca, you might consider that their post office opened in 1888.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Cuyamaca is 4,670 feet [1,423 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the elevation of Cuyamaca is about ¾ mile [or ~1½ km] above sea level.

Adding Cuyamaca to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Cuyamaca in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Cuyamaca was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Cuyamaca post office opened in 1888. The Cuyamaca post office closed in 1907.
