Welcome to Colorado ...

So far, we found very little information about Colorado. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Colorado to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Colorado, please Contact Us.

Colorado would have been located within present day Mariposa County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Colorado, you might consider that their post office opened in 1858.

Time Zone: The area where Colorado was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Colorado ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two California communities named Colorado: This one is located in Mariposa County and the other is located in Imperial County.

Beyond California, there are 8 communities that are also named Colorado - they are located in Alaska, Illinois, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Texas (2) and Utah.

Adding Colorado to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source (so far) we've referenced which mentioned Colorado was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Colorado post office opened in 1858. The Colorado post office closed in 1860.

For more details, see References and Mentions for Colorado.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Colorado, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of California's counties, including Mariposa, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
