The location of Index has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Index, you might consider that their post office opened in 1892. While the community is gone, the present day location for Index is 980 feet [299 m] above sea level.<4>. Time Zone: The area where Index was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time If Index still existed, it would have been in the (501) area code.
