Welcome to Ryals ...
So far, we found very little information about Ryals. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>
We've added Ryals to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Ryals - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Ryals, please Contact Us.
While we don't have the exact location of Ryals , we believe that it would have been located within present day Cherokee County<2>.
While we don't have a date for the founding of Ryals, you might consider that their post office opened in 1900.
Time Zone: The area where Ryals was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time
The Area Codes where Ryals was located: 256 & 938<3>
Adding Ryals to Our Gazetteer ...
The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Ryals was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>
From that list, the Ryals post office opened in 1900.
We also found Ryals on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Alabama (1911).
For more details, see References and Mentions for Ryals.
Footnotes ...
<1> | We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Ryals, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy. |
<2> | If you're interested in how the shape of Alabama's counties, including Cherokee, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries. |
<3> | When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 256 code has been Overlayed with the 938 area code. New phone numbers in the Ryals area will be assigned with one of these codes: 256 or 938. As a result, placing a call in the Ryals area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number). |
