Cemeteries Near Red Oak ...

Since we are still searching for the location of Red Oak, we can't identify the cemeteries that would be nearby. Although we found mention of Red Oak during our research,<1> we don't have its physical location (ie- latitude and longitude). Once we can determine its location, we'll be able to prepare our list of nearby cemeteries.

We have done a cursory search and haven't been able to find any evidence that Red Oak still exists. If you can help with the location of Red Oak or know of a cemetery that we should include in our Gazetteer, please let us know.

In the case of a cemetery, we are looking for information such as its name, its GPS location, whether the cemetery is still in use or if it is historic (ie- defunct, abandoned, etc.). If it applies, we would also like to learn of any past or alternate names that the cemetery has been known by.

If you don't know the GPS location (ie- the latitude/longitude) of a cemetery, please use our Map Page for Red Oak to determine the cemetery's position (the instructions for finding the latitude/longitude can be found below the map).

If you need information about a burial or interment, photos, transcripts, how to contact the cemetery or local authorities, please visit our collection of Genealogy Websites on our Genealogy Helper Page for Red Oak.

Footnotes ...

<1>If we encounter the name of what might be a community, our methodology is to add that name to our Gazetteer. For example, we might find a sentence like "He went south past Red Oak and then turned west". While Red Oak could be some kind of landmark, we think that it's more likely to be a community. We've added Red Oak as a placeholder with the hope that we'll be able to add more information in the future.

Just as a reminder: Our definition of a community is rather broad and includes those places where several families lived and had a name which identified that place. The community might still exist or it might have existed for just a short period of time. Places of interest include buildings at a crossroad, families in a hollow or maybe the location of a way station. It also includes places like mines, lumber camps, ferry crossings, etc.

Also keep in mind that Red Oak could have been on the original document by mistake, misspelled, the original/alternate name of a community that we've listed elsewhere or was placed in the wrong county. Sometimes a post office or train station would have a different name than the community where it's located, so two names might be referring to the same community.

Just in case there has been confusion between counties, we found that there are two Alabama communities named Red Oak: This one is located in Monroe County and the other is located in Covington County. For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Red Oak.
