The community of Montgomery is the Seat for Montgomery County. In addition, the community of Montgomery is also the capital of Alabama.

Montgomery County was founded in 1816 and was created by taking area from Monroe County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Montgomery had a population of 226,486 people. This is a decrease of 1.32% since the last Census (which gave a population of 229,505 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Montgomery represented 4.8% of the total population of Alabama.
