Lee County was founded in 1866. Lee was created by taking area from Chambers, Macon, Russell and Tallapoosa Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lee had a population of 165,015 people. This is an increase of 17.66% since the last Census (which gave a population of 140,247 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lee represented 2.93% of the total population of Alabama.
