Welcome to Art ...

So far, we found very little information about Art. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Art to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Art - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Art, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Art , we believe that it would have been located within present day Dale County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Art, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1892.

Time Zone: The area where Art was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Art was located: 334 & 483<3>

Communities Also Named Art ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 3 communities that are also named Art - they are located in Indiana, Missouri and Texas.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Art.

Adding Art to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Art was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Art post office opened in 1892. The Art post office closed in 1906.

We also found Art

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Art, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Alabama's counties, including Dale, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 334 code has been Overlayed with the 483 area code. New phone numbers in the Art area will be assigned with one of these codes: 334 or 483. As a result, placing a call in the Art area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
