Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Alexandria had an population of 159,050 people. This is an increase of 13.63% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 23.98% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Alexandria had a population of 139,966 people.

The population of Alexandria represents 1.75% of the population of Virginia (which has 8,001,024 people), making it the state's 7th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 139,966 people, the population of Alexandria increased 9.11% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 128,283 people).
