The location of Columbus has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Columbus, you might consider that their post office opened in 1840. While the community is gone, the present day location for Columbus is 740 feet [226 m] above sea level.<4>. Time Zone: The area where Columbus was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel west from Columbus (for example, toward Dunlap), you will leave Eastern Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT). Columbus would have been located in the (423) area code.
