So far, we found very little information about Afton. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Afton would have been located within present day Dona Ana County<2>.


The location of Afton has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Afton, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1923.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Afton is 4,210 feet [1,283 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Afton is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Afton was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you leave Afton and travel east, you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT).

The location where Afton once stood is in the (575) area code.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Afton was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

We also found Afton mentioned on a train schedule titled Southern Pacific Railroad Time Tables (August 1903).
