The origin (or the toponymy) of Reno: Named for Jesse Lee Reno (1823-1862), a Major General serving with the Union Army and who was killed at the Battle of South Mountain. When the people of Reno refer to themselves (known as a demonym), they frequently use Renoite<3> Reno is 850 feet [259 m] above sea level.<4>.
