So far, we found very little information about Sewell. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Sewell would have been located within present day Fayette County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Sewell, you might consider that their post office opened in 1893.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Sewell is 1,010 feet [308 m] above sea level.<3>.

Adding Sewell to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Sewell in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Sewell was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Sewell post office opened in 1893. The Sewell post office closed in 1957.

However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now.
