At the time of the 2010 Census, Morgantown had a population of 29,660 people (which is 30.66% of the total population of Monongalia County). This makes Morgantown the county's most populous community.

The population of Morgantown represents 1.6% of the total population of West Virginia (which has 1,852,994 people), making it the state's 4th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 29,660 people, the population of Morgantown increased 10.63% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 26,809 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Morgantown was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Morgantown post office opened in 1795.
