The community of Sutton is the Seat for Braxton County.

Braxton County was founded in 1836. Braxton was created by taking area from Kanawha, Lewis and Nicholas Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Braxton had a population of 13,894 people. This is a decrease of 4.33% since the last Census (which gave a population of 14,523 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Braxton represented 0.78% of the total population of West Virginia.
