At the time of the 2010 Census, Waunakee had a population of 12,097 people. This makes Waunakee the county's 6th most populous community.

The population of Waunakee represents 0.21% of the total population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 70th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 12,097 people, the population of Waunakee increased 34.49% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 8,995 people).
