Vernon County was founded in 1851. Vernon was created by taking area from Richland and Crawford Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Vernon had a population of 30,877 people. This is an increase of 3.71% since the last Census (which gave a population of 29,773 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Vernon represented 0.52% of the total population of Wisconsin.
