Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Birchwood had an population of 430 people. This is a decrease of 2.71% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 16.99% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Birchwood had a population of 442 people. This makes Birchwood the county's 16th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 442 people, the population of Birchwood decreased 14.67% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 518 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Birchwood was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Birchwood post office opened in 1901.
