Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Derby had an population of 4,228 people. This is a decrease of 8.5% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 8.17% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, the Town of Derby had a population of 4,621 people (which is 16.97% of the total population of Orleans County). This makes Derby the county's most populous community.

The population of Derby represents 0.74% of the population of Vermont (which has 625,741 people), making it the state's 31st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 4,621 people, the population of Derby has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 4,604 people).
