Welcome to Wilderness ...
So far, we found very little information about Wilderness. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>
We've added Wilderness to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Wilderness - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Wilderness, please Contact Us.
While we don't have the exact location of Wilderness , we believe that it would have been located within present day Spotsylvania County<2>.
While we don't have a date for the founding of Wilderness, you might consider that their post office opened in 1846.
Time Zone: The area where Wilderness was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time
Communities Also Named Wilderness ...
Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Virginia communities named Wilderness: This one is located in Spotsylvania County and the other is located in Orange County.
Beyond Virginia, there are 5 communities that are also named Wilderness - they are located in Florida, Maryland, Missouri and Washington.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Wilderness was in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
We also found Wilderness in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).
