Welcome to Opossum ...

So far, we found very little information about Opossum. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Opossum to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Opossum - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Opossum, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Opossum , we believe that it would have been located within present day Dickenson County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Opossum, you might consider that their post office opened in 1903.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Opossum was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Opossum post office opened in 1903.

We also found Opossum on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Virginia (1911).
