Appomattox County was founded in 1845.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Appomattox had a population of 15,902 people. This is an increase of 6.2% since the last Census (which gave a population of 14,973 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Appomattox represented 0.19% of the total population of Virginia.
