Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Blacksburg had an population of 44,357 people. This is an increase of 4.08% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 12.09% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Blacksburg had a population of 42,620 people (or 45.15% of the total population of Montgomery County). This makes Blacksburg the county's most populous community.

The population of Blacksburg represents 0.53% of the total population of Virginia (which has 8,001,024 people), making it the state's 16th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 42,620 people, the population of Blacksburg increased 7.7% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 39,573 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Blacksburg was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Blacksburg post office opened in 1818.
