The Commemorative Quarter for Virginia

Welcome to Andrews ...

So far, we found very little information about Andrews. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Andrews to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Andrews - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Andrews, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Andrews , we believe that it would have been located within present day Spotsylvania County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Andrews, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1842.

Time Zone: The area where Andrews was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Andrews once stood is in the (540) area code.

Adding Andrews to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Andrews was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Andrews post office opened in 1842.

We also found Andrews in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Andrews, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Virginia's counties, including Spotsylvania, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
