Welcome to Acadia ...

So far, we have found very little information about Acadia. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Acadia to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Acadia - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Acadia, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Acadia, we believe that it would have been located within present day Lee County<2>.

Time Zone: The area where Acadia was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Communities Also Named Acadia ...

Using our Gazetteer, we have found that there are 3 communities that are also named Acadia - they are located in Alberta, Louisiana and Maine.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Acadia.

Adding Acadia to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

Our notes show that the earliest dated mention that we've found for Acadia was on a map titled Map of Virginia (from Rand McNally, 1911).

For more details about the above, see References and Mentions for Acadia on our Genealogy Page.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Acadia, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Virginia's counties, including Lee, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
