The community of Monahans is the Seat for Ward County.

Ward County was founded in 1887 and was created by taking area from Tom Green County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Ward had a population of 11,985 people. This is an increase of 12.45% since the last Census (which gave a population of 10,658 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ward represented 0.04% of the total population of Texas.
