Gray County was founded in 1876 and was created by taking area from Bexar County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Gray had a population of 21,849 people. This is a decrease of 3.04% since the last Census (which gave a population of 22,535 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Gray represented 0.09% of the total population of Texas.
