Frio County was founded in 1858. Frio was created by taking area from Atascosa, Bexar and Uvalde Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Frio had a population of 20,306 people. This is an increase of 17.68% since the last Census (which gave a population of 17,256 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Frio represented 0.07% of the total population of Texas.
